Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey Raises Funds for “Healthcare Heroes”
Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey has launched a fundraiser to support “healthcare heroes” who are battling the coronavirus pandemic in hospitals throughout the Carolinas. The program called “22 and You” aims to support physicians, nurses and other hospital staff who risk their lives to save others, according to the NFL star who wears the number 22.
“Like all of you, I have been watching the COVID-19 public health emergency unfold with shock and sadness. I am moved by the heroic and selfless efforts of our frontline healthcare providers throughout the Carolinas and beyond. As such, I have decided to launch an effort to help them in their life-saving work,” McCaffrey said.
McCaffrey’s partners at Lowe’s Home Improvement and Bose have made contributions, which McCaffrey said he will match. Funds will be directed to the North Carolina Healthcare Foundation and the South Carolina Hospital Association Foundation.
“What a wonderful initiative, and not surprising from a quality individual like Christian,” said Melanie Matney, Foundation president. “We will ensure that 100 percent of funds directed to the Foundation will support South Carolina’s hospital employees.”
