Furthering Our Commitment to Workforce Diversity and Inclusion
At Stericycle, diversity and inclusion in the workplace is a core value, and we are committed to ensuring our company is a place where people are treated fairly and respectfully, have equal access to opportunities and resources, and can thrive personally and professionally. To that end, we recently founded an LGBTQ+ employee resource group (ERG) to create a community of respect and inclusion for LGBTQ+ team members and allies. Along with our other ERGs, this group is meant to nurture and inspire our people, regularly investing in innovative programs that encourage understanding, appreciation, and regard.
“Even though we spend the majority of our time at work, there aren’t often opportunities to openly speak about and respond to personal identities in the workplace,” says Matt McDonald, senior vice president of marketing and strategy for Stericycle, and the ERG’s executive sponsor. “Through the LGBTQ+ employee resource group, we aim to create a space where people can talk through issues, promote inclusion, network, and strengthen our overall Stericycle community.”
One of the group’s first initiatives is to spearhead the company’s Pride month activities. This involves welcoming guest speaker Torey Carter-Conneen, CEO of the American Society of Landscape Architects, to discuss his journey and the benefits of LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace. There will also be a panel discussion, called Let’s Talk About It, where ERG leaders discuss inclusive practices and answer questions from employees.
Throughout the month of June, the group will facilitate an email campaign that explores inclusion practices and why they are so important. The theme will center around the acronym P.R.I.D.E. (pronouns, resources, identity, diversity, evolve), and each week will be dedicated to a specific letter. During this time, team members across the company will be encouraged to update their personal LinkedIn banners to a Pride month banner to show support for the ERG and its members.
Fully meeting customers’ needs is Stericycle’s number #1 priority and enabling an inclusive workforce is key to that goal. Learn more about how Stericycle is leading the way in promoting workforce diversity and inclusion.
