Bruce Bailey To Receive 2019 AHA Board Of Trustees Award
WASHINGTON, DC (March 26, 2019) – The American Hospital Association today announced that Bruce Bailey, president and CEO of Tidelands Health in Georgetown, S.C., will be awarded its 2019 Board of Trustees Award. The award is presented to individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of the AHA. Bailey will receive the award during a ceremony at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting on Monday, April 8, in Washington, DC.
Serving as president and CEO of Tidelands Health, Bailey provides executive leadership for the three-hospital system. He began his career with the organization in 1999 after serving as administrator of Abbeville County Memorial Hospital in Abbeville, S.C. His previous experience also includes administrative responsibility at both long-term and acute-care health facilities in West Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia. In addition to his work with Tidelands Health, Bailey served as chairman of the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) board of directors and served as chairman of SCHA’s political action committee and workforce advisory committee. He also served as co-chair of the SCHA reengineering steering committee, a statewide task force charged with reengineering the way care is delivered in South Carolina.
“Bruce’s deep commitment to improving patient care has been an inspiration to the AHA and the entire health care field,” said AHA president and CEO Rick Pollack. “Through his leadership in efforts to increase diversity and health equity, the strides he has made in increasing access to high-quality care in his region, and his advocacy on 340B, Bruce has been an invaluable ally for hospitals, health systems and the patients we are proud to serve.”
Bailey’s leadership and contributions to the AHA have been particularly impressive—and the AHA has turned to him to help address some of the most challenging issues facing the field. Bailey has served as a member of the national Board of Trustees for the AHA and chairman of the association’s Regional Policy Board 4. He currently is the chair of the AHA Task Force on the 340B Drug Pricing Program and serves on the board of the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity (2018-2020). A past member of the Association’s Executive Committee, he chaired the Task Force on Next Generation Trustee Engagement. He was also a member of the Committee on Performance Improvement (2014-2016), Area Wage Index Advisory Review Committee (2013-2013), and the AHAPAC Steering Committee (2012-2014).
Bailey earned a bachelor’s degree in health care management and a master’s degree in health administration from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
